Tupac Shakur's mother, Afeni, has filed a wrongful-death suit against the L.A. gang member she suspects of killing her son. At one point Las Vegas police had named Orlando Anderson, a member of the Southside Crips, as the main suspect in the case. However no charges were filed because police say they did not have enough evidence linking Anderson, 23, to the crime. Anderson filed suit against Shakur's estate last week charging the late rapper beat him up in the lobby of the MGM Grand Hotel a few hours before he was shot. Now Tupac's mother has fired back with a suit of her own. Anderson has denied killing Tupac, and has told the "Los Angeles Times" that he wishes the police would catch the real murderer so that his (Anderson) innocence can be proven.

According to reports, buzz about the pilot for the late-night talk show hosted by Magic Johnson is so good that Twentieth Television is considering shifting the show from a syndicated run and airing it exclusively on the Fox network, when it premieres in January. Such a move might spell trouble for the "The Keneen Ivory Wayans Show," which airs mainly on Fox stations at 11:00 p.m. -- the same slot Magic's show would more than likely air in. The reports point out that Keenen's show has dipped in the ratings so much that Fox stations might not mind the switch. We'll keep you posted.

WQHT- Hot 97 disc Jockeys Angie Martinez and Wendy Williams got into a screaming cat fight last Monday that required several staffers at the Hip-Hop station to break it up. Angie Martinez believed that Wendy Williams was the source of rumor that was in a column in the Daily News about Martinez's relationship with the rapper, Q-tip from A Tribe Called Quest(which I still believe true).. Anyway, just before going on the air to do her shift from 6pm-10pm, Angie Martinez allegedly waited for Williams(who works from 2pm-6pm) to come out the bathroom. Screaming, "Bitch, I thought I told you not to say anything more about us.", Martinez then reportedly pounced on Williams.

"Angie was like a windmill, swinging her arms, and Wendy tried to block the blows with her arms" says a witness.

Wendy Williams reportedly told "Daily News" in NYC that they did get into a fight Monday Night, but wouldn't go into much detail, except to say that her and Martinez are no longer friends!

Angie ended up getting suspended, I think, because people have been filling in for her since.. SHE DID NOT GET FIRED!!!

There is a story going around about LL Cool J getting his mistress pregnant and wanting her to have an abortion and keep it quiet. Last week on Wendy Williams' radio show a girl faxed in during the "Ask Wendy" segment of the show which stated that she is messing around with a rapper/actor and now she is pregnant with his baby. The father moved her into some condo and takes care of her financially even though she has a good job making $50,00 a year. She also said that the father of the baby is married and has children himself. Those are enough clues to give LL away.

First clue, "RAPPER/ACTOR". Now let's see, we got FREDDRO STARR (Onyx/Moesha), ICE CUBE (Name speaks for itself/Friday etc.), TUPAC (Name also speaks for itself/Poetic Justice etc.), and LL COOL J. Well, obviously TUPAC is already eliminated (RIP).

Second clue, "PUT HER IN A CONDO AND TAKES CARE OF HER FINANCIALLY". I think that that eliminates FREDDRO for the simple fact that...THAT NIGGA AIN'T GOT MONEY LIKE THAT!

Now it's narrowed down to ICE CUBE and LL. They are both milloinaires and they are both married with children. But let's think about it. Does ICE CUBE really seem like the nigga to be messin' with a girl that writes to Wendy? I would think that this girl lives out in NY...more of an LL type girl than ICE CUBE. CASE CLOSED yaknowwhati'msayin'?

DA BOYZ ARE BACK IN TOWN

The long awaited "Evolution" from Boyz II Men is seeing its official world release on Tuesday, September 23, and the band is planning a jam-packed week of high profile appearances to promote the record.

Plans include bi-coastal in-stores, autograph sessions, and a half-dozen major TV performances.

On Monday at midnight, the Boyz can be seen at an autograph session for fans at the Virgin Mega-Store in New York. Tuesday, they sing two songs live on The Rosie O'Donnell Show, then hop on a private jet to Los Angeles for an autograph session that evening at Tower Records on Sunset. Wednesday sees them taping the Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and Thursday, the Keenan Ivory Wayans show.

Friday, September 26, The Oprah Winfrey Show has Boyz II Men on her show in conjunction with a special for the film "Soul Food" which features the group on the Babyface-produced soundtrack. The following Monday (October 6), the Boyz return to New York for a performance on Late Night With David Letterman.

As previously reported by MTV News, the group says the three year gap between records was because the work required to sell some 12 million records left them in need of some rest, and a chance to "get our minds together."

The producers of "Evolution" include Puffy Combs as well as Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Babyface.

The album's first single, "4 Seasons Of Loneliness," was shipped to stores last week.

PUFFY BACK AT IT AGAIN

Just when you thought Puffy had run out of possible collaborators...

Sean "Puffy" Combs, the Bill Gates of the music business, has now teamed up with none other than Foo Fighter Dave Grohl.

Grohl joined Puffy in a New York studio last weekend to play guitar and drum tracks for a remix of Puffy's "It's All About The Benjamins," for which Grohl will get a co-producing credit.

Puffy told MTV News he and Grohl met at a recent party, where they agreed to work on a rock remix of the track.

There is no word yet on a release date for the Grohl/Puffy project.

HIT CAREY 911

Even though she brought in heavy-hitting hip-hop collaborators to work on her new album, Mariah Carey says that she still tried to maintain her own sense of style on "Butterfly."

For the album, her seventh, Carey brought in Puffy Combs, Stevie J., and Missy Elliot, who had a few decidedly un-Mariah lyrical suggestions that didn't make the cut.

"When I worked with Missy it was funny, because she wanted to put a line in that was like 'something beeping me 911, and I'll come quicker than the cops. ' I like that lyric, but for my song, it doesn't work. So I tapered what she was doing, and she'd be like, 'Mariah, come on, you don't have to think about it so hard. Just write it. This sounds good.' But I'm like, 'You don't understand. I get really criticized about this.' People are gonna be like, 'Who the hell does she think she is. Beep me 911.' But I can't get out of control and act like I'm suddenly somebody I'm not, but I've always been into urban music. I grew up in New York, listening to New York radio, and it continues to influence me and it always will."

You can see how much of an influence New York radio, and Missy Elliot, had on Mariah by picking up "Butterfly," which hit stores this week.

Last Tuesday also saw the launch of Carey's official website (at http://www.music.sony.com/Music/ArtistInfo/MariahCarey), which features news, a complete discography, and sound files from each of "Butterfly's" tracks. The site also promises that tour information will be coming soon.

TUPAC.COM

One year after the death of Tupac Shakur, there are still a number of projects in the works from the slain rapper.

"The New York Post" reports that several parties are vying for position to release a large number of unreleased tracks from Tupac. The film and video rights to his life story and poetry and other non-music works are also up for grabs.

So far, parties that have shown interest reportedly include Mercury Records, who may put out an album of the rapper's early recordings, and Interscope Records (Shakur's original label) who reportedly want to release at least two album's worth of songs that he recorded just before his death.

Quincy Jones and "Malcolm X" producer Marvin Worth are reportedly looking to bring a feature film version of Shakur's life to the big screen, and HBO is reportedly interested in a documentary of his life.

Meanwhile, those who want to follow the Shakur murder case can check out a recently launched website from the "Las Vegas Sun" that chronicles the rapper's death and the police investigation that has followed. The site (at www.lasvegassun.com/sun/dossier/events/shakur/shakur.html) features a year's worth of Tupac-related news stories from the Associated Press as well as the "Sun's" own coverage of the fatal shooting which occurred in Las Vegas.

Users can also access photos of the rapper, details from Shakur's death certificate, reaction to his death from fans and colleagues, and timelines of both his recording career and the night he was murdered.

DRE DAY ALL DAY

Dr. Dre is reportedly fending off accusations that he lifted a portion of a song from a group called Milkbone and used it on a track for Scarface.

The Associated Press reports that Milkbone producer James Gist and Set It Off Records filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Dre (known to some as Andre Young) on Monday in Los Angeles.

The suit reportedly claims that Dre heard a Milkbone track that samples Lalo Schifrin's "The Human Fly" while he was talking to the group about helping them with a distribution deal. The suit then claims that when talks broke off between Dre and the group, Dre used the sample on the song "Game Over" which he produced for Scarface.

Gist and Set It Off reportedly claim their plans to release Milkbone's song using the same sample had to be dropped, and are seeking $2 million for their troubles.

USHER ALL GROWN UP

Other than chart success, teen sensation Usher has another goal for his sophomore effort, "My Way."

"I want to show people that I've grown a lot since my last album, and writing was a part of that process," Usher told our colleagues at the MTV Radio Network.

To showcase his maturation, Usher enlisted the help of Babyface, Jermaine Dupri, and Teddy Riley as well as co-writing six songs himself.

So far, the move seems to be paying off as Usher's new single, "You Make Me Wanna," is currently at number three on the "Billboard" singles chart, and has already been certified gold.

The second single, "Nice And Slow," should hit the airwaves in October. Usher also hopes to hit the road for a tour before the end of the year.
